Nutrisystem Calories, Food Reviews, and Diet Costs
Are you considering joining a commercial diet program? If so, the popular Nutrisystem program will likely be one of the diets you will consider. But before investing, it’s smart to gather essential information. Check Nutrisystem’s cost, food reviews, and other program details to see if you’re likely to stay on the diet long enough to see results.
Then compare Nutrisystem to other diets, such as Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers, to make a final decision on which program is right for you. Nutrisystem offers different programs for different types of diets and different budgets. There are separate programs for men and women, as well as options for vegetarians and people with type 2 diabetes.
Within each plan you can choose your own meals or you can choose the favorite package where the meals are selected for you. Nutrisystem recommends starting with the favorites package. Most plans start with Turbo Takeoff to help kick-start weight loss during the first week of the program. The Lean13 program will help you lose up to 13 pounds plus seven inches (overall) in your first month.
Each plan provides a different level of service.

Each of these plans is also available for dieters with type 2 diabetes, but Turbo Takeoff is not included in these programs.
After choosing and subscribing to a Nutrisystem program, food is delivered to your door. If you sign up for automatic delivery, you will continue to pay and receive orders every four weeks until you cancel your subscription.
Calories per day
While on Nutrisystem, the calorie count will change throughout the program. Nutrisystem dietician Courtney McCormick MPH, RDN, LDN explains how it works. “During the program, dieters consume about 1000 calories per day for the first week to help them jump-start their weight loss. You may experience greater weight loss results during this first week.” Research has shown that early weight loss can help you stick to a long-term weight loss program.
But she says the low calorie count is limited to the first seven days. After the first week, men consume around 1,500 calories per day and women consume around 1,200 calories per day. Individuals with 100 pounds or more to lose will adjust their meal plan to include around 200 more calories per day. McCormick says this helps promote consistent weight loss for the rest of the program.
The Nutrisystem diet is a low glycemic index program. The diet is set to provide approximately 50% of calories from carbohydrates, 25% of calories from protein and 25% of calories from fat. The diet provides less than 2300 milligrams of sodium per day unless you add your own salt. “
